Military members may be eligible to save money on their auto insurance policy. In addition to these military discount offers listed below, some other carriers and states may offer military-specific discounts to help you save.
Arbella
Available in Massachusetts only, Arbella extends up to 10% off to active duty military members that are deployed a minimum of 100 miles from where their car is parked.
Armed Forces Insurance
Armed Forces Insurance does not directly offer a military discount, but they partner with multiple insurance carriers to help you find an affordable auto insurance policy that suits your needs.
Direct Auto Insurance
Direct Auto Insurance offers a military discount up to 25% off. Eligible members include all active duty members of all branches, National Guard, and reserves. The discount is offered in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Missouri, South Carolina, and Texas.
Geico
The Geico Military Discount program is available to active duty, National Guard, reserve, veterans, immediate family and retired military members. The standard military discount is 15% off insurance premiums. They also offer a 25% off Emergency Deployment Discount.
The General
Active duty military members based in Louisiana and serving full time in all branches including the Reserves and National Guard are eligible to receive a military discount.
Liberty Mutual
Liberty Mutual offers a military discount of up to 10% off to active duty, reserve, and retired military members. Military policy holders can also save 5% on homeowners insurance.
Navy Federal Credit Union
Navy Federal Credit Union partners with Geico to offer discounted auto insurance rates to qualifying military members.
USAA
USAA members can save 10% when they bundle home and auto insurance. They also offer a 15% military installation discount when your vehicle is garaged on-base.
Military Discounts
Auto insurance discount are offered to military members by many insurance companies. While some discounts are applied directly to your auto insurance premium, some discounts are only available depending on location of the vehicle, or when insurance products are bundled. Some companies, like Geico and USAA offer extensive products and services geared to military needs, including emergency deployment discounts, military insurance ID cards, worldwide coverage, military pay plans, and more. Geico is one of the few companies who’s military discount is offered in all 50 states and internationally.
Non-Military Discounts
If your auto insurance carrier doesn’t offer a military-specific discount, there are usually several other ways to save. Ask your carrier about about the discounts they have available that may apply to your situation. Here are some of the many ways you can get a discount on your policy:

Veterans
Most car insurance companies do not have veteran-specific auto insurance discounts. However, veterans can usually bundle policies or use some of the non-military discounts available to increase their savings — especially if they are still affiliated with a federal or military-related organization or are an alumni or professional member of one of the participating associations. Veterans with a VA home loan or a conventional loan can generally bundle their homeowners insurance with their auto policy to receive a discounted rate.
Disabled Veterans
Car insurance companies don’t typically offer discounts for disabled veterans. Disabled veterans are however, eligible to apply for special grants to purchase adaptive equipment or a one-time payment to assist disabled service members buy a specially-equipped vehicle. Information about the automobile allowance and adaptive equipment is available through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Federal Laws prohibit insurance carriers from raising rates or denying coverage to disable drivers, but you’ll likely need to provide a letter from a medical provider confirming your ability to operate a motor vehicle and properly disclose the nature of your disability.
Deployments
Military members scheduled to deploy may be eligible for discounts or services. Vehicles that will be stored for an extended period of time or are garaged a certain number of miles away from the driver often qualify for lower rates. Geico for example offers a 25% Emergency Deployment Discount.
Overseas Coverage
If you are planning to travel overseas with your automobile in tow, be sure to check with your carrier to see if they offer coverage there and what the protection policy includes. Geico offers coverage worldwide and carriers such as USAA and Armed Forces Insurance are well-versed in setting up international policies for military members since they cater to directly to the military.
Bundling
Bundling is often the best and easiest way to squeeze some savings out of your insurance policy. It also makes it easier for you when your carrier can lump all of your payments together and schedule them to be automatically deducted from your account.
